Shout! Factory, which specializes in older TV shows (the supplier is bringing out the late-1960s/1970s show Marcus Welby M.D. next week) delivered Leave It To Beaver: The Complete Series in a 37-disc set on June 29, 2010. Just DVD, not Blu-ray, but do we really need the Beaver in high-definition?
The long-running 1950s television series follows the comedic trials and tribulations of the Cleaver family and stars Barbara Billingsley, Hugh Beaumont, Tony Dow and Jerry Mathers as June, Ward, Wally and Beaver Cleaver, respectively.
All 234 episodes of the show’s six seasons (1957-’63) were restored and remastered for the release.
The discs offer these special features:
- pilot episode “It’s A Small World”
- “Forever the Beaver: The Cleavers Look Back,” with cast members Jerry Mathers, Tony Dow and Barbara Billingsley, as well as renowned collector and co-creator of The New Leave It To Beaver Brian Levant, reflecting on the sitcom.
- “Ken Osmond and Frank Bank Remember,” featurette in which cast members Ken Osmond and Frank Bank reminisce
- “The Drum Major of the Toy Parade,” conversation with theme song composer Dave Kahn
- six episodes of Shokus Radio’s Stu’s Show featuring members of the Leave It To Beaver cast
- special film for the U.S. Treasury featuring the Cleavers
- original network promos
Plus, the box set, priced at $199.99, contain an exclusive replica of the original “Leave It To Beaver Money Maker Board Game” and a commemorative booklet.
The first two seasons of the TV show were released on DVD a few years ago, but a separate six-DVD set of Leave It To Beaver: Season Three was issued on June 15, 2010.
The season three set includes an audio interview with Jerry Mathers and Frank Bank from Shokus Internet Radio’s Stu’s Show.
