Science-fiction horror movie Splice was born on DVD and Blu-ray on Oct. 5, 2010, just in time for Halloween viewing.
The R-rated film stars Sarah Polley (TV’s Slings and Arrows) and Adrien Brody (Predators) as two scientists who go against the rules to splice together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Called Dren (Delphine Chaneac), the organism quickly develops into a fully grown winged woman who proves very dangerous.
The movie grossed $16.7 million during its run in theaters.
Warner Home Video‘s Blu-ray version of Splice is a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack with digital copy, allowing purchasers to play the movie on Blu-ray and DVD players as well as download the digital copy to mobile phones or portable video players. It was priced at $29.99. The stand-alone DVD version was priced at $28.98.
Only one special feature is listed so far: the featurette “A Director’s Playground: Vicenzo Natali On the Set of Splice.”
Despite grossing low at the box office for a horror, Splice scored 75% approval on Rotten Tomatoes critics Tomatometer, saying it’s a smart and well-acted movie that will appeal to horror fans.
