Lionsgate signed a multi-year home entertainment distribution deal with Francis Ford Coppola’s Zoetrope Corporation, which resulted in the Blu-ray release of Coppola’s Apocalypse Now on Oct. 19, 2010.
The 1979 Academy Award-winning Vietnam war movie, which is on the American Film Institute’s 100 Years … 100 Movies list, features an all-star cast with Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Laurence Fishburne, Dennis Hopper and Harrison Ford.
The film was released on Blu-ray in two versions: a Two-Film Set, which includes both the original Apocalypse Now, the recut Apocalypse Now Redux and more than nine hours of special features; and a three-disc Full Disclosure Edition, including the making-of documentary Hearts of Darkness, a 48-page booklet and storyboard, photo and marketing archives.
As part of its deal with Zoetrope, Lionsgate also released the Gene Hackman-starrer The Conversation, which won the 1974 Palme d’Or at the Cannes International Film Festival and in 1995 was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress by the National Film Registry for its cultural significance.
Lionsgate released Coppola’s movie Tetro on DVD and Blu-ray in May 2010.
The studio’s deal with Zoetrope includes DVD, Blu-ray, electronic sell-through and video-on-demand rights.
