New Release: The Last of the Mohicans Director’s Definitive Cut Blu-ray

The Last of the Mohicans movie sceneDirector Michael Mann’s (The Insider) 1992 Oscar-winning film The Last of the Mohicans, starring Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood), debuted on high-definition Blu-ray on Oct. 5, 2010, in a new Director’s Definitive Cut from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.

In the romance drama, which won an Academy Award for Best Sound, Day-Lewis plays Hawkeye, a frontiersman and adopted son of the Mohicans while the British, French and Native Americans war. Hawkeye rescues Cora Munro (Madeleine Stowe of We Were Soldiers), the daughter of a British General who has been captured by Huron warriors. As their love for each other grows, they must find their way through the battlefields.

Based on the classic literary novel by James Fenimore Cooper, the movie grossed $75.5 million when it was released in theaters in 1992.

The Last of the Mohicans Director’s Definitive Cut Blu-ray was priced at $34.99 and includes these special features:

  • commentary by Mann
  • and a making-of featurette with new interviews with Day-Lewis.

Fox released a series of classic movies on Blu-ray in 2010 as part of the studio’s 75th anniversary, including the Alien movies and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
