Wild Grass, a film from legendary filmmaker Alain Resnais (Last Year at Marienbad, Hiroshima Mon Amour), was issued on DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on Oct. 26, 2010. It carries a suggested retail price of $28.96.
Gorgeously shot, staged and designed by the 88-year-old Resnais, one of the lions of original French New Waver filmmakers and a lion of international cinema, the French comedy movie stars André Dussollier (A Very Long Engagement) and Sabine Azéma (Private Fears in Public Places, also directed by Resnais) as two eccentrics — a suave, 60-ish Frenchman and a redheaded dentist — who come together in a kind of romantic adventure after Georges discovers Marguerite’s lost wallet. As the two navigate the social protocols of giving and acknowledging thanks, turbulence enters their everyday lives.
Equal parts surreal comedy, romance, sex farce and tragedy, the PG-rated foreign film is based on the novel L’incident by French novelist Christian Gailly.
Wild Grass won the Jury Special Prize at the Cannes International Film Festival, where Resnais was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to cinema.
Special features on the Wild Grass DVD include a featurette about production designer Jacques Saulnier.
