New Release: The Art of Ballet DVD

The Paris Opera Ballet performs The Nutcracker.

First Run Features issued four of its previously released classic ballet films in the DVD boxed set The Art of Ballet on Oct. 26, 2010, for a list price of $59.95.

The quartet of films are:

Ballerina (2006), directed by Bertrand Normand, is an intimate documentary portrait of five promising members of Russia’s Kirov Ballet Company.

The Dancer (1994), directed by Donya Feur, follows a young, gifted ballerina (Katja Bjorner) through years of intensive training at the Royal Swedish Ballet School as she develops into an international ballet star.

Etoiles: Dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet (2001), directed by Nils Tavernier, is a documentary that celebrates the legacy of the famed Paris Opera Ballet by weaving together rehearsals and tour snapshots of classical and contemporary works.

and Prima Ballerina (2007), directed by Laurent Gentot, is a double portrait of two icons of contemporary Russian ballet: Svetlana Zakharova of the Bolshoi and Ulyana Lopatkina of the Mariinsky.

Supplemental features on the DVD set include photo galleries and biographies of the dancers.
