When director Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps was in theaters, another movie from the filmmaker came out on DVD and Blu-ray on Oct. 26, 2010, documentary South of the Border from Cinema Libre.
The film, which chronicles Stone’s travels to South America last year, looks at the rise of power of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and other South American presidents, who have been responsible for sweeping changes in the region. As well as Chavez, the movie includes conversations with Bolivia’s Evo Morales, Brazil’s Lula da Silva, Argentina’s Cristina Kirchner and her husband and ex-president Nestor Kirchner, Paraguay’s Fernando Lugo, Ecuador’s Rafael Correa and Cuba’s Raul Castro.
The 78-minute South of the Border premiered at the 2009 Venice Film Festival and was officially selected to AFI Silverdocs. In 2010, the documentary also premiered in South America, attended by the presidents of Bolivia, Ecuador and Venezuela, as well as Stone.
The film, which was priced at $24.95 on DVD and $29.95 on Blu-ray, also has these special features:
- Stone’s additional questions for Chavez, filmed in 2010
- behind the scenes of the South American promotional tour
- deleted scenes
- “Changes in Venezuela” look at Chavez’s reforms and the impact on the country’s poor
- and two South American TV interviews with Stone.
