Criterion delivered a Blu-ray edition of the 1964 science-fiction fantasy movie Robinson Crusoe on Mars on Jan. 11, 2011, for the suggested retail price of $39.95. Criterion’s DVD edition of the film was issued back in 2007.
Special effects wunderkind and genre master Byron Haskin (The War of the Worlds, TV’s The Outer Limits) won a place in the hearts of fantasy film lovers everywhere with Robinson Crusoe on Mars, a gorgeously designed journey into the unknown.
The film tells the story of U.S. astronaut Commander “Kit” Draper (Paul Mantee), who must fight for survival when his spaceship crash-lands on the barren waste of Mars, a pet monkey his only companion. But is he actually alone?
Shot in Techniscope, the movie comes to Blu-ray with a restored high-definition digital transfer, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack.
