The day after Dario Argento’s latest film, Giallo, was released on DVD by Maya Entertainment, its star Adrien Brody (The Pianist) filed a suit against the movie’s makers. In the film, Brody plays a detective who is helping a woman find her sister, who has been kidnapped by a serial killer.
Brody said in a lawsuit filed last week that his deal for the film guaranteed he would be paid whether it was made or not. But after about a week of production, Mr. Brody said, its producers failed to pay $640,000 into an escrow account. Instead they signed the actor to a new agreement under which he would finish the film in exchange for the “absolute right to withhold consent to the use of his likeness” (according to an article in The Hollywood Reporter).
Brody is seeking a permanent injunction against the release of Giallo, as well as damages for breach of contract, breach of fair dealing, fraud and misappropriation of his publicity rights.
