New Release: The Andy Griffith Show 50th Anniversary DVD

The Andy Griffith Show sceneClassic family TV comedy The Andy Griffith Show turned 50 in 2010, and to celebrate, Paramount Home Entertainment released The Andy Griffith Show 50th Anniversary: Best of Mayberry DVD on Dec. 21.

The Andy Griffith Show aired from 1960 to 1968 and starred Andy Griffith (Waitress) as Sheriff Andy Taylor, who lived in Mayberry, N.C., with his son Opie (a young Ron Howard, director of A Beautiful Mind), and Aunt Bee (Francis Bavier of TV’s It’s a Great Life). Don Knotts (TV’s Three’s Company) played Sheriff Taylor’s hyper cousin, Deputy Barney Fife.


The three-disc set includes, among other episodes, the Danny Thomas Show episode that introduced Sheriff Andy Taylor and the hit television movie Return to Mayberry, which reunited the actors and characters, plus fan favorite episodes from the Andy Griffith Show that have been newly remastered.

The 50th Anniversary DVD set was priced at $24.99.

The Andy Griffith Show was previously available in full-season DVD sets and a complete series DVD set.
