New Release: Step Up 3 DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D

Step Up 3 movie sceneWalt Disney Studios Home Entertainment was the third studio to schedule a movie for release on Blu-ray 3D the same day as its DVD and Blu-ray bow. Step Up 3 was released on all three home entertainment formats on Dec. 21, 2010.

Warner Home Video and Universal Studios Home Entertainment first set movies for release on Blu-ray 3D, DVD and Blu-ray the same day: Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore and Despicable Me, respectively.

Step Up 3, the third installment of the dance movie franchise, tells the story of group of New York City street dancers (including Rick Malambri of TV movie After the Fall and Sharni Vinson of Australian TV series Home and Away) who team up with an NYU freshman (Adam G. Sevani from Step Up 2) to take on the world’s best hip hop dancers in a high-stakes showdown. Alyson Stoner, from the original Step Up film and Camp Rock : The Final Jam, also stars.

The movie, which grossed $42 million at the box office, was shown in 2D and 3D showings when it ran in theaters. In fact, the film was shot entirely in 3D, so making it the studio’s first day-and-date Blu-ray 3D title seems a no-brainer.

The Blu-ray 3D package, prived at $49.99, includes the movie on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD plus a downloadable digital copy. Step Up 3 also is available as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack ($39.99) and a single DVD ($29.99).

The DVD includes these special features:

  • “Extra Moves” music montage featuring alternate angles and extra footage
  • making-of featurettes of the music videos
  • and music videos for:
    • “Club Can’t Handle Me” by Flo Rida Featuring David Guetta
    • “My Own Step (Theme From Step Up 3)” by Roscoe Dash and T-Pain Featuring Fabo
    • “Already Taken” by Trey Songz
    • “This Girl” by Laza Morgan
    • “This Instant” by Sophia Fresh Featuring T-Pain
    • “No Te Quiero (Remix)” by Sophia Del Carman Featuring Pitbull
    • “Irresistible” by Wisin y Yandel
    • and “Spirit of the Radio” by Jrandall.

The Blu-ray offers all the DVD special features, plus:

  • “Born From a Boom Box: A Luke Katcher Film” documentary made by Malambri’s character
  • and eight deleted scenes with introductions by director Jon M. Chu (Step Up 2: The Streets).

The 107-minute PG-13 movie also was made available for download priced at $39.99 for high-definition or $29.99 for standard definition.
