New Release: Columbo Mystery Movie Collection 1991-1993 DVD

Six TV movies featuring the loveable bumbling cigar-loving detective Columbo, played to brilliance by Peter Falk (The Princess Bride), were released in a new DVD set on Feb. 8, 2011, by Universal Studios Home Entertainment. Columbo: Mystery Movie Collection 1991-1993 is a three-DVD set priced at $26.98.

The Columbo television series launched in 1971 and episodes and TV specials have aired as recently as January 2003. The show was created by Richard Levinson and William Link, the writing team that also was behind another mystery series 1980s-1990s’ Murder, She Wrote.

Here’s a list of the episodes included in the DVD set:

Caution: Murder Can Be Hazardous to Your Health (1991) — Columbo investigates a security expert turned crime show host for the murder of a rival with incriminating evidence of pornography. George Hamilton (8 Heads in a Duffel Bag) co-stars in the film.

Columbo and the Murder of a Rock Star (1991) — Columbo battles a defense lawyer who has never lost a case.

Death Hits the Jackpot (1991) — Columbo solves a mystery about a down-on-his-luck photographer in the final stages of a divorce who tries to avoid sharing his $30 million lottery winnings with his soon-to-be-ex wife. Rip Torn (The Larry Sanders Show) co-stars.

No Time to Die (1992) — Columbo attends his cousin’s wedding and ends up working when the bride goes missing. Desperate Housewives‘ Doug Savant also is in the cast.

A Bird in the Hand (1992) — Columbo’s investigation of a hit and run proves to be more than an accident when another car explodes. Judging Amy‘s Tyne Daly co-stars.

It’s All in the Game (1993) — Columbo is on the trail of a woman (Faye Dunaway of The Thomas Crown Affair), who murders her cheating lover and then tries to seduce Columbo to throw him off his game. Falk also wrote this movie, his only writing credit.
