2004 comedy Christmas With the Kranks offers this message: Never wait til the last minute to prepare for Christmas.
In the PG-rated movie, Tim Allen (Toy Story 3) and Jamie Lee Curtis (A Fish Called Wanda) play a couple who are always the pride of the neighborhood at Christmas, putting up the best lights and cooking up the best feast.
One year, their daughter says she will be away for the big day, so Curtis and Allen decide to skip Christmas altogether and go on a cruise in the Caribbean, much to the disgust of their neighbors (including Ghostbusters‘ Dan Aykroyd). But, when their daughter calls and says she will be coming home for Christmas afterall and she’ll be bringing someone special, Allen and Curtis have to run around to get everything ready in time. It’s not long before they discover that last-minute is definitely not fun.
Allen and Curtis are no strangers to comedy, and both serve up the laughs easily in this movie (although Curtis lays it on a bit thick in a few scenes). Everything goes wrong for this couple, from Allen’s disastrous attempt to get a fake sun tan to Curtis fighting for dinner at the supermarket.
But, like any good Christmas movie, everything works out fine in the end.
Christmas With the Kranks is available on DVD and for the PSP from Sony.
