New Release: The Temptation of St. Tony DVD

Evocative imagery, Kafkaesque appeal and even a bit of cannibalism are on hand in the 2009 cult favorite film The Temptation of St. Tony, which Olive Films released on DVD on Feb. 22, 2011.

Written and directed by Estonia’s Veiko Õunpuu, the movie explores the nature of good and evil in a fable-like tale about a middle-age corporate manager (Taavi Eelmaa) trapped in a stale professional and personal life. Hungering for a more vivid and meaningful existence, he strikes a dangerous bargain with a mysterious figure — and it’s then that the visions begin.

Stunningly photographed in black and white, the foreign-language film began picking up a following when it played the Sundance and Rotterdam film festivals. The movie received acclaim and critical comparisons to David Lynch’s Eraserhead. From what we’ve read, we’re definitely interested in checking out this one.

Presented in Estonian, Russian, English and French with English subtitles, The Temptation of St. Tony was priced at $29.95 on DVD.

No bonus features are on the disc.
