There’s erotic tension in the air when Mena Suvari (American Beauty) and Jack Huston (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) star as a young newlywed couple on the brink of their sexual awakening in the passionate drama Hemingway’s Garden of Eden, which came out on DVD courtesy of Lionsgate on March 15, 2011.
Set in the South of France and Spain in the 1920s, Garden of Eden tells the story of an American novelist, David Bourne (Huston) who falls madly in love with a temptress named Catherine (Suvari) whom he quickly marries. Eager to start their lives together and fulfill one another’s fantasies, Catherine introduces her new husband to an exotic stranger, Marita (Caterina Murino), who quickly infuses both excitement and jealousy into their lives as they embark on a dangerous romantic game of adultery, romance and obsession.
An adaptation of Ernest Hemingway’s erotic novel The Garden of Eden (which was published posthumously in 1986), the 2008 movie also stars Carmen Maura (Tetro), Richard E. Grant (Love Hurts) and Matthew Modine (Frenemy).
The film was helmed by veteran director John Irvin (The Moon and the Stars) and released theatrically on 14 screens in early December to mixed reviews. But that shouldn’t deter fans of the legendary Mr. Hemingway, the slinky Ms. Suvari and the sizzling Ms. Murino, who raised pulses around the world with her turn in the James Bond adventure Casino Royale.
No bonus features are on the Hemingway’s Garden of Eden DVD, which carries a list price of $19.98.
