Does anyone else think it’s weird that the TV show Ice Road Truckers airs on the History Channel? What does driving huge trucks on dangerous icy roads have to do with history — other than the fact that the show was taped in the past? Whatever channel it airs on, Ice Road Truckers is popular, and season four arrived on DVD and Blu-ray on Feb. 22,2011, from A&E Home Entertainment.
In the top-rated season, which pulled in more than 3.5 million viewers, the truck drivers return to Alaska and tackle frozen rivers and swamps, hauling supplies to some of the most remote towns of the great white north.
The truckers are Jack Jesse, defending his title; Lisa Kelly, one of the few women truckers on the road fighting to prove herself in this male-dominated profession; rookie Ray Veilleux, who recently lost his business and is driving to keep his family afloat; and, in a decades-long rivalry, veteran drivers Hugh Rowland and Alex Debogorski, racing neck and neck.
The Ice Road Truckers: The Complete Season Four DVD was priced at $39.95 and Blu-ray $49.95. Both hold 12 hours of the reality television series plus additional footage.
The show also is available on video-on-demand.
Also out from A&E on Feb. 22, 2011, were How the Earth Was Made: Complete Season Two on Blu-ray ($49.95) and 98-minute documentary I Am Alive: Surviving the Andes Plane Crash on DVD ($19.95).
