Nominated for 10 Oscar statues — but winning none — the 2010 version of True Grit was released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 7, 2011, from Paramount Home Entertainment . The movie was priced at $29.99 for the single DVD ($29.99) and $39.99 for the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack with a downloadable digital copy.
Based on the book by Charles Portis, this new adaptation of the classic western stars Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) as U.S. Marshall Rooster Cogburn, who’s hired by teenager Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld in her first feature film role) to track down the man (Josh Brolin, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) who murdered her father. Along the way, they get some help and hindrance from Texas Marshall LaBoeuf (Matt Damon, Hereafter).
Rated PG-13, the film grossed $171 million in theaters. Among its Academy Award nominations were honors for Bridges (Best Actor), Steinfeld (Best Supporting Actress, although Best Actress would have been more appropriate as she’s in close to every scene), Best Screenplay, Best Director (both for filmmakers Ethan Coen and Joel Coen, who just won all the big awards in 2007 for their No Country for Old Men) and the biggie, Best Picture.
The book was originally adapted to film in 1969, with John Wayne playing Cogburn, Kim Darby as Mattie and Glen Campbell as LaBoeuf. That version has been available on DVD for a while and debuted on high-definition Blu-ray in December.
The DVD and Blu-ray for the new True Grit include these special features:
On the DVD:
- “Mattie’s True Grit”
- “From Bustles to Buckskin — Dressing for the 1880s”
- “Re-creating Fort Smith”

The Blu-ray has all that plus:
