Jawbreaker movie scene

Rose McGowan (r.), Rebecca Gayheart (ctr.) and Julie Benz are driven to cover up an accidental murder in Jawbreaker.

Image Entertainment released the 1999 high-school comedy Jawbreaker on high-definition Blu-ray for the first time on April 5, 2011.

Starring Rose McGowan (Grindhouse), Rebecca Gayheart (Harvard Man), Judy Greer (Barry Munday), Julie Benz (TV’s Dexter) and Pam Grier (Just Wright), the movie about the repercussions of a seemingly harmless prank gone fatally awry carries a suggested retail price of $21.99.

In the film, three of Reagan High School’s most popular girls — Courtney (McGowan), Julie (Gayheart) and Marcy (Benz) — accidentally kill their friend Liz (Charlotte Ayanna, Dancing at the Blue Iguana) by jokingly shoving a jawbreaker down her throat and choking her to death. They’re determined to cover up the crime, but their plan begins to fall apart, of course, much to Courtney’s growing wrath, which threatens to bring about even more murderous and popularity-deflating consequences.

The Heathers-ish comedy is already on DVD, which contains a commentary by writer/director Darren Stein (Sparkler).
