Nominated for a Golden Globe award, comedy film Casino Jack was made available on DVD and Blu-ray on April 5, 2011, from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
The R-rated film stars Kevin Spacey (American Beauty), whose performance got the movie its Globe nod, as Jack Abramoff, the real-life Washington lobbyist who went to outrageous lengths to promote the Indian gaming industry, earning him the nickname Casino Jack.
Things go too far, however, when Jack and his womanizing protege Michael Scanlon (Barry Pepper, True Grit) enlist a dim-witted business partner (Jon Lovitz, The Benchwarmers) for an illegal scheme, leading to greed, corruption and murder that explodes into a worldwide scandal. The movie also stars Kelly Preston (Old Dogs).
The film had a limited release in theaters, grossing less than $1 million, so its release to the home market was its biggest audience.
The DVD was priced at $22.98 and Blu-ray at $29.99.
Both include these special features:
- “Casino Jack: A Director’s Photo Diary”
- gag reel
- and deleted scenes.
Too bad Fox didn’t include a featurette on the real Abramoff that the film is based on, but there’s always the documentary Casino Jack and the United States of Money, which is available on DVD.
