Paramount Home Entertainment brought out Steve McQueen’s auto-racing movie Le Mans on high-definition Blu-ray on May 24, 2011. Warner Home Video also debuted McQueen’s Papillon on Blu-ray the same day and The Cincinnati Kid on Blu-ray on June 14, 2011.
Released in 1971, Le Mans stars McQueen as a race car driver on the world’s hardest endurance course, the 24-hour race over 8.5 miles of country road in Le Mans, France. McQueen faces additional challenges because he was injured in an accident during the same race the year before, and now he finds himself drawn toward Lisa (Elga Andersen), the widow of a racer who was killed in the same accident.
According to Paramount, McQueen, the king of cool, did most of his own driving in the film. Nice!
Rated G, the movie was nominated for a Golden Globe award for best original score.
The Blu-ray, which is priced at $24.99, comes with the featurette “Filming at Speed: The Making of the Movie Le Mans.”

This looks awesome… gotta get this when it comes out!
This is a must have – both for the motor racing and for Steve McQueen. I found it much more genuine than Grand Prix.
Yeah, pretty much anything with Steve McQueen is a keeper.
