All the Alien movies have been on Blu-ray since October in the Alien Anthology boxed set, but 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment gave fans a chance to own just the films they want in case there are some in the set they don’t like. Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection were released individually on Blu-ray on May 10, 2011.
The acclaimed horror/science-fiction movie franchise features such directors as Ridley Scott (Robin Hood), James Cameron (Titanic) and David Fincher (The Social Network) and stars Sigourney Weaver (Avatar), among other well-known actors.
The Anthology marked the Alien series’ high-definition debut, but the set was re-released in February in special alien egg packaging.
The boxed sets include multiple discs for each film, packed with special features, including retrospective documentaries on all aspects of the movies’ production. However, the new individual Blu-ray offerings will be released as single discs, so presumably they won’t have all the bells and whistles of the boxed set.
The individual movies were priced at $34.98 each on Blu-ray (discounted to $24.49 on Amazon as of this writing). But that makes the Blu-ray Anthology, priced at $139.99 (discounted to $69.99 on Amazon as of this writing), a bargain.
