New Release: Almighty Thor Blu-ray and DVD

It's hammer time for Cody Neal in Almighty Thor.

Asylum Entertainment got a jump on the movie theater madness for the release of the Marvel/Paramount film Thor with its own release of Almighty Thor, a substantially lower-budgeted movie about the Norse God of Thunder who has long been a Marvel Comics sensation. Asylum released Almighty Thor on Blu-ray and DVD on May 10, 2011.

Written by Erik Estenberg (his first feature) and directed by Christopher Olen Ray (Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus), the TV movie tells the story of the young hero Thor (Cody Deal, The Castle) protecting Earth from Armageddon when the demon god Loki (Richard Grieco, TV’s Veronica Mars) destroys the fortress of Valhalla and steals the Hammer of Invincibility.

The film also stars Patricia Velasquez (TV’s The L Word) as Thor’s lady love Jarnsaxa and professional wrestler Kevin Nash as Thor’s pop, who also happens to be the ruler of Asgard, the Norse gods’ stomping ground.

This one could be fun for those who dig watching cheap knock-offs of big Hollywood fare. Even star Cody Neal seems to get that. In an interview over at SciFiMoviePage.com, he refers to Almighty Thor as a “mockbuster” and mentions that the entire film was shot in 12 days.

No bonus features are on the Blu-ray and DVD, which carry the list prices of $34.95 and $24.95, respectively.
