Colin Farrell’s (Crazy Heart) breakout role in the Vietnam war movie Tigerland debuted on high-definition Blu-ray on May 24, 2011, from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
Soon to reprise Arnold Schwarzenegger’s role as Doug Quaid in the remake of Total Recall, in Tigerland, the Irish actor played Private Roland Bozz, a Texan with a gift for getting in trouble. Ferrell’s Bozz is one of a group of platoon recruits who are in Ft. Polk, La., for infantry training in a swamp similar to the ones they’ll find in the Vietnam war. Although he has leadership qualities, Bozz isn’t liked, and as the group head into the Tigerland swamp, things get out of hand with Bozz planning to go AWOL.
Matthew Davis (TV’s The Vampire Diaries), Clifton Collins Jr. (TV’s The Event), Shea Whigham (Machete) and Tom Guiry (TV’s The Black Donnellys) also star in the R-rated film.
Directed by Joel Schumacher, who later directed Ferrell in Phone Booth, Tigerland had a limited release in theaters back in 2000.
The Blu-ray‘s special features menu includes a commentary by Schumacher and a casting session with Farrell, which were on the movie’s DVD. The new disc also contains these three new documentaries:
- “The Real Tigerland”
- “Joel Schumacher Journey to Tigerland”
- and “Ross Klavan: Ode to Tigerland.”
Tigerland also is available for instant streaming.
