New Release: Soul Surfer Blu-ray and DVD

Soul Surfer The inspirational movie Soul Surfer, which is based on a true story, arrived on Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack and DVD on Aug. 2, 2011. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment priced each at $38.99 and $30.99, respectively.

Directed and co-written by Sean McNamara (The Suite Life Movie) and rated PG, the family drama stars AnnaSophia Robb (Samantha: An American Girl) as Bethany Hamilton, a promising teen surfer who loses an arm after a shark attack. A true story, Hamilton doesn’t let her injury keep her down, finding the courage to go back into the ocean again to learn how to surf with just one arm.

Based on Hamilton’s 2006 book, Soul Surfer stars Dennis Quaid (Legion), Helen Hunt (Every Day), Jeremy Sumpter (TV’s Friday Night Lights) and — in her feature film debut — singer Carrie Underwood.

The film, which arrived in theaters with decent if not glowing reviews, has grossed $28.5 million at the box office.

  • deleted scenes
