Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment debuted the Blu-ray disc of the Coen Brothers’ 2000 period comedy-adventure O Brother, Where Art Thou? on Sept. 13, 2011, for the list price of $26.50.
The release came less than a month after Universal issued the Coen Brothers film The Big Lebowski on Blu-ray for the first time.
O Brother, Where Art Thou? playfully updates Homer’s famous epic poem The Odyssey to Depression-era Mississippi. The movie stars George Clooney (The Men Who Stare At Goats), John Turturro (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) and Tim Blake Nelson (Saint John of Las Vegas) as three escaped prisoners who embark on a wild adventure while shackled to each other. During their “odyssey,” they encounter such strange characters as a blind prophet (Lee Weaver, Donnie Darko) a trio of sexy sirens and a one-eyed Bible salesman (John Goodman, TV’s Treme).
The Blu-ray edition imports most of the bonus materials that were featured on Touchstone/Universal’s 2001 DVD version of the film, including the following:
- exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette
- two storyboard-to-scene comparisons
- “I am a Man of Constant Sorrow” music video
- theatrical trailer
