On Oct. 4, 2011, Warner Home Video released two fantasy-adventure films by Tim Burton on Blu-ray for the first time in the U.S. 2005’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, starring Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean franchise), and the 1985 comedy Pee-wee’s Big Adventure are available on high-definition for the list price of $19.98 each.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory rang up more than $200 million at the box office in the U.S. On Blu-ray, it comes with the following bonus features, all of which were imported from earlier DVD and HD DVD editions of the film:
- In-Movie Experience! with Tim Burton going through the creative process behind the movie
- commentary by Tim Burton
- “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Chocolate Dreams”
- “Different Faces, Different Flavors”
- “Designer Chocolate”
- “Under the Wrapper”
- “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: Sweet Sounds”
- “Becoming Oompa-Loompa,” how one man turned into hundreds of Oompa-Loompas
- “Attack of the Squirrels,” about the trained nut-sorting squirrels
- “Fantastic Mr. Dahl,” a look into the life of Roald Dahl, who wrote the book on which the movie is based
- Two previsualizations: Augustus Gloop dance and Mike Teavee dance
- Dolby TrueHD music-only track showcasing Danny Elfman’s score and songs
- European club reel
- theatrical trailer
The Pee-wee’s Big Adventure Blu-ray, meanwhile, contains these features, all of which were first seen on earlier DVD editions of the film:
