20th Century Fox Home Entertainment released the nostalgic drama Skateland on Blu-ray and DVD on Aug. 30, 2011, for the list prices of $29.99 and $22.98, respectively.
Starring Ashley Greene (the Twilight saga) and Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood), the movie revolves around young Ritchie Wheeler (Fernandez), a carefree teenager growing up in a small Texas town in the early 1980s. The local roller rink Skateland is more than just a hangout — it’s a fading symbol of good times, friendship and the move towards adulthood. As everything begins to change for a growing Ritchie, all he can do is try to hang on to his budding romance with the sweet Michelle (Greene) as some of the most important decisions he has ever faced appear in front of him.
The PG-13-rated film is the first directed and co-written by Anthony Burns, a writer on Red Velvet. It co-stars Melinda McGraw (TV’s Mad Men), James LeGros (Bitter Feast) and D.W. Moffett (TV’s Friday Night Lights).
Skateland received a limited release in theaters in May, following a 2010 international film festival run.
The DVD edition of Skateland (not to be confused with 1979’s incomparable Roller Boogie with Linda Blair) includes only the feature film, while the Blu-ray edition also offers a collection of deleted scenes.
