On Sept. 27, 2011, Lionsgate released the 2007 movie American Loser on DVD for a list price of $26.98. The independent film stars Seann William Scott (Planet 51) as an ex-alcoholic New Yorker who suffers from self-induced attention-deficit disorder, dyslexia, Tourette’s syndrome and balance impairment.
Oh, and the film is promoted as a comedy!
American Loser follows Jeff (Scott) — who blames his problems on his wealthy parents — after he’s evicted from the garage he rents through his hook-up with Lynn (Gretchen Mol, Tenure), the possibly gold-digging blonde who may just be the person to help Jeff pull everything together.
The first feature film directed by Tod Williams, American Loser was adapted from the 2007 book The Little Yellow Bus: A Special Education Memoir by comedian Jeff Nichols and was originally entitled Trainwreck: My Life as an Idoit. (That’s right, “idoit,” which is how dyslexic Jeff spells it.)
The movie co-stars Jeff Garlin TV’s Curb Your Enthusiasm), Deirdre O’Connell (The Greatest) and Dennis O’Hare (TV’s True Blood).
Obviously renamed to play up Scott’s familiarity from the American Pie series, the comedy-drama received a tiny but well-reviewed release in theaters back in 2008.
The DVD contains a making-of featurette as a bonus feature.
