The 2009 Belgian drama My Queen Karo arrives on DVD on Oct. 25 for the list price of $19.95, from Vanguard.
Written and directed by Dorothee Van Den Berghe (Girl), the movie stars newcomer Anna Franziska Jager as 10-year-old Karo, who grows up with her parents in an Amsterdam commune in the 1970s.
As an only child, she leads a carefree existence in what appears to be a utopia-for-adults situation. The commune’s mandate says that everything is to be shared, but some do not honor that ideal. Karo finds herself caught in the crossfire of the internal conflicts that begin to divide the group and threaten her family, leading her to realize that nothing stays the same forever.
Well-reviewed during its film festival roll-out in 2009 and 2010, My Queen Karo is premiering in the U.S. on DVD.
No bonus features have been announced for the DVD of the foreign movie, which is presented in Flemish and French with English subtitles.
