New Release: Set Up Blu-ray and DVD

Set Up movie scene

Bruce Willis (l.) and 50 Cent enjoy a libation before the shooting stars in Set Up.

Lionsgate released the action-filled 2011 crime drama Set Up, starring Bruce Willis (Red), Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (Blood Out) and Ryan Phillippe (The Lincoln Lawyer), on Blu-ray and DVD on Sept. 20, 2011. The discs were priced at $24.99 and $19.98, respectively.

Directed and co-written by Mike Gunther (Beatdown), the movie co-stars former UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture (The Expendables).

The independent film concerns a thief named Sonny (Jackson) who partners with a notorious Mob boss (Willis) to seek revenge against his former partner, who run off with the loot following a diamond heist gone awry. But matters get complicated when Sonny ultimately comes face to face with the man he has been hunting and is forced to make a serious decision.

Set Up was co-produced by 50 Cent’s production company Cheetah Vision (which has also bought us such 50 Cent movies as Gun, Things Fall Apart and Freelancers with Robert De Niro). The film was reportedly budgeted at $22 million, so we find it hard to believe that it premiered on DVD without a quick release in theaters first. But maybe that says something about the movie…

Bonus features on the Blu-ray and DVD include a commentary with co-writer/director Gunther, a pair of featurettes and cast/crew interviews.
