On Oct. 18, 2011, Warner Home Video released Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory 40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition, a limited and numbered three-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack featuring the beloved 1971 family musical/fantasy film starring Gene Wilder (Bonnie and Clyde).
The discs are housed in double-wide gift set packaging and contain more than an hour of bonus features, including “Mel Stuart’s Wonkavision,” a brand new interview with the film’s director; a new-to-DVD featurette on Roald Dahl, author of the children’s book on which the movie is based; a 144-page production book reprint filled with photos and notes; and archival letters.
Warner is also throwing in premiums like a retro Wonka Bar-shaped tin box with scented pencils and eraser (!) and a limited time Golden Ticket Instant Win Game piece for a chance to enter and win a trip for to to Los Angeles, Calif. Just like in the movie, five grand prize winners get the trip for themselves and one guest. In honor of the movie’s 40th anniversary, 40 limited run posters of the original theatrical one-sheet are runner-up prizes. The Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory 40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector’s Edition carries a suggested retail price of $64.99. A two-DVD set of the movie with some bonus features and scratch ‘n’ sniff sticker sheets also is available, for a list price of $12.97.
