On Sept. 6, 2011, Phase 4 Films released the Blu-ray and DVD of the 2008 movie Disco Worms, an animated family comedy about, well, use your imagination! The discs are priced at $29.99 and $24.99, respectively.
Okay, here we go: In the film, Barry is an earthworm who is sorta bummed out because he works in a compost heap and lives at the bottom of the food chain. But one day an old disco record hits a chord with Barry and he decides to put together the world‘s greatest disco band. But can Barry make The Disco Worms a smash when not a single worm in the band has any arms or rhythm?
A Danish movie originally entitled Sunshine Barry & The Disco Worms (think K.C. and The Sunshine Band), it’s the third feature film directed by veteran Danish animator and F/X craftsman Thomas Borch Nielsen.
The Disco Worms U.S. Blu-ray and DVD release is dubbed into English and features the voice of Jane Lynch (TV’s Glee) as wannabe-worm-singer Gloria, as well as such iconic disco hits as “I Will Survive,” “YMCA” and “Play That Funky Music.”
The last couple of years has seen the film roll out across the world as both a DVD premiere and a limited theatrical release. Disco Worms even made it to France last fall, where it’s known as Barry Le Roi Du Disco.
Bonus features on the DVD include an interview with Lynch (who undoubtedly explains how she found her way into this project) as well as a trailer and stills gallery.
