The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo movie scene

Noomi Rapace is The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Dragon Tattoo Trilogy: Extended Edition is comprised of substantially longer versions of the three Swedish films based on the trio of acclaimed, best-selling novels by the late Swedish novelist Stieg Larsson: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.

Produced in 2009 and often referred to as The Millennium Trilogy, the three movies were all released to theaters in the U.S. by Music Box Films in 2010, before they arrived on Blu-ray and DVD.

The crime thriller films star Noomi Rapace as Lisabeth Salander, the series’ pierced and punked-out computer-hacking heroine, and Michael Nyqvist as Mikael Blomkvist, the writer/editor with whom Lisabeth partners to investigate a series of intense and bizarre crimes.

Co-produced by Sweden’s Yellow Bird production company and Denmark’s Nordisk Film, Dragon Tattoo Trilogy: Extended Edition clocks in at nine hours and contains more than two hours of footage not included in the theatrical versions, including additional roles and an even more notable subplot featuring the character Erika Berger (played by Lena Endre), the editor at Blomkvist’s Millennium Magazine.

The films were first seen in their extended form on Swedish television in 2010 as a six-part TV mini-series entitled Millennium. In the series, each film had a three-hour running time and was divided into two parts of 90 minutes each.

The DVD and Blu-ray of Dragon Tattoo Trilogy: Extended Edition contain the documentary “Millennium: The Story” as a bonus feature. The 53-minute chronicle details the phenomenon of the “Millennium” trilogy and the personal history of author Stieg Larsson up until his death before The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was published in 2005.

The Dragon Tattoo: Extended Edition disc release is a month before the Dec. 21, 2011, bow of the U.S. film version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, directed by David Fincher (The Social Network) and starring Rooney Mara (Youth in Revolt) and Daniel Craig (Road to Perdition).
