The high-definition Blu-ray debut of Three Amigos — or ¡Three Amigos!, as the 1986 western comedy-adventure movie is officially known — was long-awaited.
With a transfer overseen by director John Landis (National Lampoon’s Animal House), the ¡Three Amigos! 25th Anniversary Edition features more than 20 minutes of never-before-released footage in its Blu-ray incarnation.
Inspired by the silent movie era and the western serials that it generated, Three Amigos stars Steve Martin (It’s Complicated), Chevy Chase (Caddyshack) and Martin Short (TV’s Damages) as, well, the three amigos.
The film is set 1916, when the notorious bandit ‘El Guapo’ and his gang are terrorizing a remote Mexican village. Having seen a silent film featuring “The Three Amigos,” a trio of movie “heroes,” the daughter of the village leader sends a telegram to the troop for help, believing them to be real-life gunslingers. Thinking they’re being offered a fortune for a personal appearance, the actors travel to Mexico, only to discover they’ll be dodging real bullets!
A gorgeous-looking film photographed by the late Ronald W. Browne (TV’s Mission: Impossible), the Blu-ray edition of Three Amigos is primed to be one of the best-looking catalog titles of the year if all goes according to plan! And we’re really psyched to see the extra material!
