Trespass, a thriller film directed by Joel Schumacher (Twelve), centers on a wealthy husband and wife (Nicolas Cage of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Nicole Kidman of Rabbit Hole) who are taken hostage by four tough home intruders looking for cash. Not surprisingly (as we’ve seen before in movies involving volatile teams of bad guys), betrayal and deception begin to unravel the criminal camp, leading to even more nastiness and violence.
Co-starring Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom), Cam Gigandet (Pandorum) and Liana Liberato (Trust), Trespass has been receiving only so-so advance buzz from online critics. According to reports, the production was disrupted at one point when Cage abandoned the project weeks before the start of principal photography, allegedly insisting on switching roles from Kidman’s husband to the kidnapper! But he returned to the role of the husband a couple of weeks later and the movie resumed on a new schedule.
The film opened for a limited release to U.S. theaters on Oct. 14, 2011, a mere two-and-a-half weeks before its DVD and Blu-ray debut.
Here’s the trailer, which looks like relatively straight-ahead crime-thriller stuff, if you ask us:
