Starring Julia Roberts (Best Actress Oscar winner for Erin Brokovich), Eat Pray Love, based on the best-selling memoir by author Elizabeth Gilbert, was released on DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 23, 2010, with a Director’s Cut of the film from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
In the movie, which grossed $79 million in theaters, Roberts plays Gilbert, a modern woman who, after a divorce, takes a year-long sabbatical from her job to travel the world and reconnect with her inner self. Stepping out of her comfort zone, Gilbert experiences the pleasure of nourishment while eating in Italy, the power of prayer in India and inner peace and balance in Bali.
The PG-13 movie, which was co-written and directed by Ryan Murphy (creator of TV’s Glee), also stars James Franco (Date Night), Richard Jenkins (Dear John), Viola Davis (Doubt), Billy Crudup (Pretty Bird) and Javier Bardem (Best Supporting Actor Oscar winner for No Country for Old Men).
On DVD ($28.95) and Blu-ray ($34.95), Eat Pray Love is available in a 145-minute Director’s Cut featuring additional scenes from the book, as well as the original 140-minute version of the movie that ran in theaters.
Both the DVD and Blu-ray include the featurette “Ryan Murphy’s Journey With Eat Pray Love,” and the Blu-ray also has these exclusive special features:
- “Eat Pray Love: The Beginning of the Journey” featurette
- “Finding Balance” featurette
- “Praying in India” featurette
- and Sony’s BD-Live feature MovieIQ+Sync, offering trivia about the movie via the Web as viewers watch the film.
The featurettes include interviews with Roberts, Murphy and Gilbert filmed while they were on location in Rome, India and Bali.
