Paranormal Activity 3The third installment of the horror franchise, Paranormal Activity 3 is a prequel of the first two movies, looking at how the, well, paranormal activity surrounding their family began.

Set in 1988, the film watches young sisters Katie (Chloe Csengery) and Kristi (Jessica Tyler Brown) as they make friends with an invisible entity living in their home.

Katie Featherston, Molly Ephraim and Brian Boland return to their roles as the older Katie, Ali Rey and Daniel Rey, respectively, roles Featherston played in both prior movies and Ephraim and Boland introduced in Paranormal Activity 2.

Rated R, the spooky third film, told via security camera footage and home movies, got mixed reviews from critics and audiences, but that didn’t stop Paranormal Activity 3 from racking up $103 million when it was in theaters.

Paranormal Activity 3 Blu-ray boxThe Blu-ray/DVD Combo pack, in both DVD and Blu-ray packaging, comes with additional scares including an unrated version of the movie and “lost tapes.” The Blu-ray/DVD version also includes the original film shown in theaters (on high-definition Blu-ray only, not DVD) and a digital copy of the unrated version. The unrated movie is 10 minutes longer than the theatrical version.

Exclusively at Walmart starting Jan. 24 is a trilogy DVD set with all three Paranormal Activity movies in both theatrical and unrated versions plus all previously released bonus materials.

Walmart also exclusively has a DVD-only version of the unrated version of Paranormal Activity 3 (available Feb. 14). A DVD-only version of the theatrical film is available anywhere.

A special Paranormal Activity: The Chronology, showing the three films in their chronological order as a seamless marathon, is available for digital download prior to the Blu-ray/DVD debut.
