Linda Cardellini stars in Return.

Linda Cardellini (TV’s Freaks & Geeks) stars in the 2011 film Return, a drama about a soldier’s homecoming to a life she no longer recognizes.

Back from a military tour of duty, Kelli (Cardellini) can’t wait to rejoin her old life in the Rust Belt town she’s always known and experience the feelings of everyday life. But slowly, her world comes to feel unfamiliar. Her friends love her but seem preoccupied with trifles; her children need more focused attention than she can give, and as much as he tries; and her husband Mike (Michael Shannon, TV’s Boardwalk Empire) doesn’t understand what she’s been through. As Kelli’s dislocation ripples through her world, she risks becoming an outsider. When she’s finally thrown back on her own resources, Kelli has to struggle to find a new way forward in a place she no longer recognizes.

Return, which marks the feature debut of writer/director Liza Johnson, also stars John Slattery and Talia Balsam, both of whom co-star in TV’s Mad Men.

The unrated film was issued to theaters on a limited basis in early February, 2012, to average reviews from the critics.

Bonus features on the DVD include a commentary track and a selection of deleted scenes.
