Death and Cremation movie scene

Brad Dourif (l.) give Jeremy Sumpter some on-the-job training in Death and Cremation.

Brad Dourif (The Lord of the Rings films) is a murderous sociopath who takes care of business via the crematorium in the basement of his funeral home in the 2010 horror-thriller film Death and Cremation.

Dourif’s 59-year-old recluse, Stan, doesn’t seem much interested in promoting his funeral home business—only in eliminating anyone he perceives to be a bully. Enter Jarod (Jeremy Sumpter, TV’s Friday Night Lights), a fatherless, 17-year-old high school outcast who’s busy dealing with problems at school and his mom’s abusive boyfriend (Daniel Baldwin, Vampires).

When Stan takes the beleaguered Jarod under his wing, they soon develop a demented friendship. But the neophyte makes mistakes and–as detective Fairchild (Scott Elrod, Escapee) struggles to pull together clues from local disappearances–Stan must decide if protecting his newfound protégé is worth killing for.

Directed and co-written by Justin Steel, Death and Cremation premieres on DVD in the U.S. following its appearance at handful of film festivals, including the Screamfest Film Festival in October, 2010.
