The Raid: Redemption movie sceneIko Uwais and Joe Taslim star as members of a rookie SWAT team tasked to infiltrate a safe house filled with the world’s most dangerous killers and gangsters in the 2011 Indonesian martial arts-action shoot’em up film The Raid: Redemption.

Cloaked under the cover of pre-dawn darkness and silence, an elite swat team led by Rama (Uwais) and Jaka (Taslim) sets out on their raid of a safe house in the Jakarta slums to take down the notorious drug lord that runs it. But when a chance encounter with a spotter blows their cover and news of their assault reaches the drug lord, they find themselves stranded on the 6th floor with no way out. The unit must fight their way through the city’s worst to survive their mission.

The Raid: Redemption is the second collaboration between writer/director Gareth Evans and star Iko Uwais, their first being the 2009 action flick Merantau. Both films showcase the traditional Indonesian martial arts discipline known as “Pencak Silat.”

The film, which has been screening around the world, grossed some $4.2 million in its limited rollout to theaters in the U.S. beginning in April, 2012. Action aficionados appear to really love this one!

Rated R for its theatrical run, it arrives on disc in an unrated, even nastier version.

Presented in Indonesian with English subtitles and in an English dubbed version with music by Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, the DVD and Blu-ray contain a healthy list of bonus features, including the following:
