Hollywood hijinks and high-stakes espionage collide in the acclaimed 2012 drama-thriller Argo, directed by and co-starring Ben Affleck (The Company Men).
Based on the declassified true story, Argo chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis, focusing on the little-known role that the CIA and Hollywood played.
On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reached its boiling point, militants stormed the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. In the midst of the chaos, six Americans managed to slip away and find refuge in the home of Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor (Victor Garber, Titanic). Knowing it was only a matter of time before the six were found out and likely killed, the Canadian and American governments asked the CIA to intervene. The CIA turned to their top “ex-filtration” specialist, Tony Mendez (Affleck), to come up with a plan to get the six Americans safely out of the country. Enter a team from Hollywood and a plan involving a production team scouting locations for an upcoming movie…
The R-rated Argo also stars Bryan Cranston (TV’s Breaking Bad), Alan Arkin (The Change-Up) and John Goodman (Trouble with the Curve).
The film, nominated for four Golden Globe Awards and on everyone’s short-list for a slew of Academy Award nominations, has grossed $105 million thus far in its wide release to U.S. theaters, which began in mid-October, 2012.
While the DVD contains only one featurette, “Rescued from Tehran: We Were There,” the Blu-ray/DVD Combo contains considerably more. Here’s what’s included:

- Audio Commentary with Director Ben Affleck
- Rescued from Tehran: We Were There
- Argo: Absolute Authenticity
- ARGO: The CIA & Hollywood Connection
- Escape From Iran: The Hollywood Option
