Filmmaker Ang Lee’s (Brokeback Mountain) acclaimed adventure movie Life of Pi was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
The film is based on the best-selling novel by Yann Martel
It follows Pi Patel, a young man who’s the only survivor of a sea disaster. Marooned on a lifeboat, he discovers there is one other survivor in the boat with him, a fearsome 450-pound Bengal Tiger. Launched on a journey of discovery, the man and the tiger make an unexpected connection.
Life of Pi has been lauded for its visuals and was nominated for an Oscar for cinematography and visual effects. The movie won a Golden Globe for its original score, which also gained an Academy Award nod, as well as sound, editing, direction and adapted screenplay. The film grossed $103 million in the U.S. and $525 million worldwide.
