21 & Over is about a wild night that gets wilder and wilder, so it should be no surprise that it’s written and directed by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the writers of all three Hangover movies.
This comedy takes the wildness a little younger, telling the story of straight-A college student Jeff Chang (Justin Chong, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2), who’s used to doing the right thing. On his 21st birthday, he’s surprised by a visit from his two best friends, Miller (Miles Teller, Rabbit Hole) and Casey (Skylar Astin, Pitch Perfect).
They decide to go out and celebrate. No harm in one beer. But that beer, of course, turns into a night of chaos, over indulgence and debauchery. The problem is, Jeff’s interview for medical school is the following morning.
21 & Over didn’t score as well with critics or moviegoers as the original Hangover. As Boston Globe critic Tom Russo said, “Among the ingredients 21 is missing: the infectiously random silliness of a Zach Galifianakis, the smug hunkiness of a Bradley Cooper, and any sort of Vegas-y gloss whatsoever.”
The R-rated film, which is the first directed byLucas and Moore, grossed $25.6 million.
The Blu-ray/DVD Combo comes with these special features:
- “Levels of Intoxication”
- “Tower of Power”
- gag reel.
