Trance movie scene

Rosario Dawson gets involved in a brain-draining art heist in Trace.

Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle (127 Hours) helms the heady crime-thriller Trance, starring James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class), Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) and Rosario Dawson (Fire with Fire).

When art auctioneer Simon (McAvoy) double-crosses the gang responsible for the daring daylight robbery of a priceless Goya painting, he incurs the wrath of the gang’s violent leader, Franck (Cassel). In the aftermath of a beating where he is knocked unconscious, Simon claims to be suffering from amnesia and is therefore unable to remember where the painting has been hidden, provoking Franck into hiring female hypnotist Elizabeth (Dawson) to find the answer. But as Elizabeth delves ever deeper into Simon’s subconscious, the lines between fantasy and reality converge and the plot twists wildly, threatening to consume all as a series of shocking events spiral violently out of control.

Fast-paced, unpredictable, and quite sexy, Trance is actually a remake of a well-reviewed 2001 British TV movie written and directed by Joe Ahearne. While Boyle’s new Trance received generally positive notice from critics, it didn’t do much at the box office, ringing up only $2.3 million in limited release to U.S. theaters in April, 2013.
