Marvel's Thor: The Dark WorldChris Hemsworth (Rush) returns as the hammer-wielding superhero in Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World.

The universe again needs saving, but this time, Thor has a new evil to battle, an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith (Christopher Eccleston, Lennon Naked) who wants to plunge the universe into darkness with help from a powerful hidden force. But when Thor’s girlfriend, Earth scientist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman, Black Swan) gets infected with the force, the battle gets personal, and Thor must partner with his estranged brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston, War Horse) to win.

Kat Dennings (Daydream Nation), Stellan Skarsgard (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), Ray Stevenson (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Idris Elba (Pacific Rim), Rene Russo (Ransom) and Anthony Hopkins (Hitchcock) return for the movie, and Zachary Levi (TV’s Chuck) joins the cast.

Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray 3D boxThor: The Dark World grossed $203.5 million at the box office, beating the original Thor film. But critics didn’t like it quite as much. Still, the PG-13 sequel got decent reviews, with New Yorker‘s Bruce Diones calling it “wildly uneven but entertaining.”

Special features on the DVD, Blu-ray and two-disc Blu-ray 3D Combo pack include:

  • extended and deleted scenes
  • gag reel
  • exclusive look at Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  • 30-minute featurette “A Brother’s Journey: Thor & Loki,” with filmmakers and the cast exploring the two characters
  • featurette “Scoring Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World” with filmmakers and acclaimed composer Brian Tyler
  • commentary with director Alan Taylor, producer Kevin Feige, actor Tom Hiddleston and cinematographer Kramer Morgenthau.
