HBO’s irreverent comedy TV show Eastbound & Down: Season 4 finds burned-out major league pitcher Kenny Powers (Danny McBride, Due Date) going at it as the co-host of an ESPN-ish sports talk show after “faking” his own death at the close of Season 3.

Picking up a year or so after Season 3, the fourth season of the show finds KennycBride) struggling with his identity after fleeing his successful comeback to the minors by faking his own death and returning home to the love of his life, April (Katy Mixon, Take Shelter), and their son Toby. Years later, Kenny is settled quietly into family life in North Carolina, working as an assistant manager at a car rental outlet, trying to piece together a screenplay about his life story and numbing the  yearning to return to the vices of his glory days with boring couples’ nights and bland dinner parties. But when a former teammate (Ken Marino, Wanderlust) turns up with an opportunity for Kenny to get back in the game as a celebrity commentator – and to live the rich, famous lifestyle he deserves – Kenny begins to wonder whether the time is right for a comeback of a different sort.

Created by McBride, Ben Best (writer of Your Highness starring McBride) and Jody Hill (writer/director of Observe and Report) and exec produced by Will Ferrell (The Other Guys) and Adam McKay (Step Brothers), Eastbound & Down also stars John Hawkes (Martha Marcy May Marlene) and Jennifer Irwin (No Strings Attached).

HBO has confirmed that Season 4 of Eastbound & Down is indeed the series’ final cycle of shows, so get it while the gettin’’s good!
