The incandescent Jeanne Moreau (La Notte, The Train) stars as an avenging angel in François Truffaut’s (Jules and Jim) 1968 thriller The Bride Wore Black, an homage to the thrillers of Alfred Hitchcock.
The film—about a widow (Moreau) who goes after the five men she believes murdered her husband on their wedding day—provides a brilliant contrast between dark deeds and the light-struck beauties of southern France.
Highlighted by, among other things, a spectacular score by Bernard Herrmann, who’s always associated for his Hitchcock soundtracks (including those for Psycho and North by Northwest, The Bride Wore Black nonetheless takes on its own strangely poetic, very French ambiance.
Based on a book by American genre novelist Cornell Woolrich (aka William Irish) and shot by the legendary Raoul Coutard (Contempt, Z) The Bride Wore Black’s release by Twilight Time represents the movie’s Blu-ray debut.
As supplier Twilight Time prints up only 3,000 copies of each title, keep an on distributor Screen Archives‘s site for the upcoming prebook date, which will probably be in early January!
