The 1967 cult gangster film The St. Valentine’s Day Massacre about an underworld gang war that breaks out between two rival gangs in Chicago during the Roaring Twenties makes its Blu-ray debut courtesy of Twilight Time.
Based on the infamous 1929 mass rubout of of seven members of Chicago’s Northside Gang on orders from Al Capone, the film is directed by Roger Corman (Sharktopus). It stars Jason Robards (Long Day’s Journey into Night) as Al Capone, George Segal (Love and Other Drugs) as Peter Gusenberg, and Ralph Meeker (Kiss Me Deadly) as George “Bugs” Moran.
Also popping up in the crime movie are a young Bruce Dern who plays one of the victims of the massacre, and Jack Nicholson has a blink-and-you-miss-it bit as a gangster.
