Acclaimed science-fiction movie Predestination has gotten a lot of buzz among time travel fans.
Ethan Hawke (Boyhood) stars as The Barkeep, a Temporal Agent sent on an intricate seres of time-travel journeys designed to prevent future killers from committing their crimes. On his last assignment, he must stop the one criminal who has eluded him throughout time and prevent a devestating attack that will kill thousands.
Rated R, Predestination scored with critics and fans alike. New Yorker‘s Richard Brody called it: “A brisk, twisty, and atmospheric science-fiction thriller that piques the imagination and the senses with the low-rent exuberance of fifties drive-in classics.”
The film is based on the sci-fi short story “All You Zombies” by Robert A. Heinlein and helmed by the Spierig Brothers, the directing team behind Hawke vampire movie Daybreakers.
Bonus materials on the DVD and Blu-ray are:
- outtakes
- behind-the-scenes featurette “A Journey Through Time”
- and the 10-part documentary “All You Zombies: Bringing Predestination to Life.”

I don’t remember this one coming to my city. It sounds a little like “Looper” which I liked a lot. Thanks for the heads up. DiscDish is consistently one of the film websites where I can find little gems and hear about films I otherwise wouldn’t read anything about anywhere else. I’m going to check this out when it releases.
Thanks for the love, Anita E. We try to list those films that often get missed. I’ve got high hopes for this one. Daybreakers was a really interesting entry in the vampire genre, and I think this could be the same in the time travel category. It’s on instant video now and the trailer got a bunch of buzz. It’s definitely on my to-watch list.
I saw “Daybreakers.” I liked it a lot. It was so much more of a mature story of vampires and I loved Willem Dafoe’s character. When I get to watch “Predestination” I’ll let you know what I think. Looking forward to your personal review.
