Tom Hardy (Lawless) and James Gandolfini (Not Fade Away) star in the gritty crime thriller The Drop.
The movie follows lonely bartender Bob Saginowski (Hardy) through a covert scheme of funneling cash to local gangsters – “money drops” – in the underworld of Brooklyn bars. Under the heavy hand of his employer and cousin Marv (Gandolfini), Bob finds himself at the center of a robbery gone awry and entwined in an investigation that digs deep into the neighborhood’s past where friends, families, and foes all work together to make a living – no matter the cost.
Directed by Michael R. Roskam (Bullhead), The Drop is written by bestselling author Dennis Lehane, based on his own short story “Animal Rescue.” Co-stars include Noomi Rapace (Prometheus) and John Ortiz (Jack Goes Boating).
Upon its limited release to theaters in September, 2014, The Drop was embraced by critics, who gave it a 91% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 178 published reviews. It only made a little noise at the box office, ringing up $10.7 million.
The Blu-ray and DVD include a commentary by Roskam and Lehane, deleted scenes with optional commentary by Roskam and Lehane and promotional featurettes.
